According to China Customs, China's export
volume of sorbitol (HS code: 38246000 and 29054400) was 6,167 tonnes in June
2016, down 21.2% MoM. However, the figure hit 39,325 tonnes in H1 2016, up
34.5% over the same period last year.

Specifically, export volumes of four major
sorbitol enterprises in China all climbed up in H1 2016:

Notably, Roquette and Shandong Tianli were
still the top two exporters, whose export volume took up 35.66% and 36.9% of
China's total respectively.

China's export destinations of sorbitol
were mainly Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asian countries in H1 2016. Notably,
Thailand imported 6,829 tonnes, up 87.45% YoY. Accordingly, Japan and Korea had
the largest demand for crystallized sorbitol, and sorbitol fluid was mainly
exported to Southeast Asian countries.

The rise in export volume of sorbitol was
mainly thanks to the fall in export price. According to China Customs, the average
export price of China's sorbitol was USD636.84/t in H1 2016, down 4.36% YoY,
which was affected by domestic price. According to CCM's price monitoring, the
ex-works price sorbitol averaged USD999/t (RMB6,616/t) in Jan.-July 2016, down
19.26% YoY.
At the same time, prices of corn (raw
material for sorbitol) and vitamin C (VC, downstream product of sorbitol) all
went down in H1 2016
